Men’s 9-Hole Golf
Spring schedule is now in effect for the Rough Riders, which means we have moved our starting time to 9am. This allows us to take advantage of the better weather in the mornings for golf and the longer afternoons for our “honey do” lists.
Like hibernating bears, many of our players are shaking off the winter cobwebs and rejoining the group for spring golf. We find the course at it finest this time of the year.
Tuesday, May 22nd marks our annual trip to Rio Vista for nine holes of golf. This road trip is always a major event, and one which we have enjoyed for the last five years.
We will also be making plans for a local trip to Discovery Bay to play 18 holes. If any of this is of interest and you would like to join us, give me a call at 240-6943 or email me at gshultz333@gmail.com and I’ll get you started.
Cribbage Club
Interested in playing cribbage? We meet every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in the SSIII Clubhouse. It is open to anyone in the four Summerset communities.
Veterans Club
I hope everyone survived the Easter Bunny’s visit, because now it’s time to get ready for our big BBQ and fundraiser that supports our Boxes for the Troops Program! The BBQ will be held on June 16th at 1pm at Summerset III. The price is $20 per person. See the ad in this newsletter.
During our last meeting the universal question of ‘How do we keep our club going so we can continue to do the work we started?’ came up. Several suggestions were made, and we’ve decided to start with some incentives to get more members to attend. You can take advantage of our first incentive at the May meeting when we have a drawing for a free ticket to our BBQ ($20 value). Everyone attending the May meeting is eligible. If you bring a new member to the meeting, you’ll be given an additional ticket for the drawing and the new member will also be given a chance to win. All the members who attended our April Meeting want to keep our club going, so we hope this works. If any members have any other ideas, please feel free to call Jim at 240-9397 or Len at 561-2831 with your ideas.
To date, we have sent 1,325 boxes overseas to our troops, with more boxes to be shipped out this month. We need your support to keep them going. Our troops need the support. If anyone has sons, daughters, etc. in Afghanistan, please let me know and we’ll send them a box. Remember our troops are still in harm’s way so let’s support them.
Thanks for all your support.

Our 10th Annual Lasagna Dinner was a big success. Once again Vi Smith along with her team of wonderful volunteers, put together a great evening of food and entertainment. Local restaurateur, Melo’s, returned this year to provide us with their wonderful original Lasagna. Mello’s is a community favorite for pizza and pasta and we thank them for their help. Kudos to Leo Loranger for his MC skills! Your jokes and light-hearted banter were enjoyed by all!
The entertainment provided by two marvelous groups of four, from Liberty High School and were a very special treat. A big thank you to their instructor for all her efforts in providing these singers during their spring break.
We spotted George Mackanic and Leo McGoff prepping the courts for our season opener and we were able to begin play, as planned, on April 14th! The Bocce Season is in full swing!
A new registration sheet is now in use court side. We request you sign in on arrival to provide our starter marshal an opportunity to fairly assign teams.
To all our new players, we welcome you and remind you that you do not have to even know how to play the game. Lots of our members will be delighted to assist you in the rules of the game. Rules are also posted on the patio.
Looking forward to a great season and seeing you on the courts!
